Peer Advocacy and Community Outreach

Moving Towards Independence

VCIL is there to support you towards independence - whether you want to move out of a nursing home and back into the community, manage attendant care, find a job, or advocate for your rights.

VCIL's Peer Advocacy and Community Outreach Program provides disabled and Deaf Vermonters with support and training to learn independent living and self-advocacy skills.

Peer Advocate and Community Outreach Specialists (PACs) have had personal experience with disabilities. They work with peers one-on-one and in groups, to find solutions and improve options for independent living in our communities.

Independent living goals may include moving out of a nursing home, managing attendant care, budgeting finances, acquiring adaptive equipment, communicating more effectively, or finding a job.
