| SILC Offers "Neighborhood Chats" to Review State Plan
The Vermont Statewide Independent Living Council (also known as SILC) is a Governor appointed council. The mission is to strive to advance the equality with which people with disabilities enjoy, participate in, and contribute to the lives of their communities, family and friends.
Every three years a new Vermont State Plan for Independent Living is developed. The public is invited to join the SILC council members at a "Neighborhood Chat" - a public hearing for the purpose of reviewing and offering comment on the draft of the plan. The proposed plan has a particularly strong focus on advocacy, leadership, education, and expansion of services.
Two public hearings will take place. One will be on Tuesday, May 29, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at VCIL in Montpelier. The other will be held at the Holiday Inn in Rutland on June 4, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Both locations are accessible and American Sign Language interpreters will be available. A Light lunch will be served.
Reservations are requested. For more information 244-5895 or e-mail the Statewide Independent Living Council at VTSILC at aol.com .
