Supporting Self-directed Independent Living
The Peer Advocacy Program engages people with disabilities in community efforts to promote changes in programs, policies, and laws that recognize the civil rights of individuals with disabilities.
Peer Advocate Counselors (PACs) have personal experience with disabilities. PACS work with peers one-on-one, and in groups, to find solutions and improve options for independent living in our communities. Together, PACs and peers create independent living plans to reach their goals. Independent living goals may include moving out of a nursing home, managing attendant care, budgeting finances, acquiring adaptive equipment, communicating more effectively, or finding a job.
Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people access valuable community resources through the Deaf Independence Program.
Students with disabilities are eligible for participation in the Youth Leadership Program.
People returning to work can get help navigating the complicated benefits and work programs by working with the Benefits to Work Program.
